Chinese face mapping is a 3,000-year-old practice. It views the face as a map, with each section connecting to different organs. A Facial Acupuncture prescription can benefit overall health, and the result will reflect on the face.

A bodily imbalance is said to show on the skin via pimples, redness or dryness. The location of these blemishes on the face supposedly represents the affected organ.

The main experience from the needle stimulation is a bright and fuller complexion; as the body’s own energy brings fresh blood and oxygen flooding through, the face is enlivened.

What happens during the first consultation and follow up sessions?

The first session begins with understanding any concerns about your face and skin. Overall health is assessed, through questions and pulse and tongue diagnosis, to find any internal health imbalances. Any disharmony or general health issues that may be contributing to the health and appearance of facial skin can be addressed.

After the Cosmetic Acupuncture treatment, and before you leave, we will discuss simple dietary and lifestyle changes which you will be able to add, without stress or pressure, into your daily living. This will be part of a treatment plan towards you reaching your skincare goals.
Before you leave, I will be happy to hear your feedback about your overall experience.

Any follow up sessions will continue with the treatment plan, beginning each session with a review of progress, and end with making any necessary adjustment to the plan for moving forward to achieve the health and well being goal.

How is Cosmetic Acupuncture performed?

Facial Acupuncture is performed by precisely inserting sterile, disposable, very fine needles into areas of the face and body.  This stimulates blood flow and collagen production to the face, while balancing the whole body. The overall result transforms the skin, yielding a smoother, more radiant appearance, while gently revealing its natural beauty.

The session starts with a mini facial massage, to bring calmness to the whole body and to stimulate blood circulation. If the treatment begins with inserting many needles, there may be an experience of dullness, headache, and discomfort due to the congestion caused by withdrawing the Qi (energy) to the head. However, when you start with the body, you can experience a full flow of energy in harmony that the helps support the Facial Acupuncture.

How Does Cosmetic Acupuncture Work?

Regular acupuncture treatments can use up to 120 needles. I prefer inserting 20 to 50 painless micro sized needles, and this makes my treatments less in-tense. As the needles puncture the skin they create tiny wounds which are called positive micro-traumas. When the body senses these wounds, it goes into repair mode.

These punctures stimulate the lymphatic and circulatory system, which work together to deliver nutrients and oxygen to skin cells, nourishing skin from the inside out. This helps to even out the complexion and promote skin glow. The positive micro-traumas also stimulate the production of collagen. This im-proves elasticity, minimising fine lines and wrinkles.

How many sessions do I need?

The average course of treatments is of 10 consecutive weekly sessions, fol-lowed by maintenance sessions recommended every 4 to 8 weeks. The results of following this schedule can last for years. Treatments usually take 60-75 minutes. The initial consultation and treatment may take up to 90 minutes.

What to expect?

While some people may notice positive changes in 1 or 2 treatments, for some it may be the 4th or 5th treatment. (Please note: the effects of smoking and sun damage might be difficult to reverse.) It could take more than 1 or 2 treat-ments to begin to naturally reverse the signs of ageing from the myriad of stresses our faces are continuously exposed to.
